Confidentiality
With a few exceptions, the law mandates absolute confidentiality in therapy. Not only will all discussions with York Region Therapy remain private but also the fact that you were a client will remain confidential, unless indicated by your written consent. If York Region Therapy is to release any information to anyone including your employer and insurance company, a signed release from the client is required.
Of course, there are some situations in which the law requires York Region Therapy to break the rules of confidentiality. These situations include the potential for a client to harm himself/herself or others, litigation involving children, elderly, or handicapped, and litigation against York Region Therapy. Be aware that your insurance company may require you to sign a release before they offer you coverage and, in fact, you may already have signed such a release. Questions or concerns regarding this area will be discussed at your first session.
